Born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1963 but raised in Connecticut, Graeme Smith is a marine biologist with a doctorate from Rutgers who became addicted to fantasy, science-fiction, and spy novels in high school.
Inspired by the pulp adventure stories of Robert E. Howard and Edgar Rice Burroughs and by countless role-playing games, but bored with many of the conventions of the genre, he decided to try his hand at writing fantasy with heroic yet flawed characters who the reader could relate to.
His first novel is Key to the City, and in it he attempts to create a believable fantasy world populated by humans and nonhumans who are more than just standard, stock characters.
He presently makes his home in Orlando, Florida, with his wife and four cats.
